Yeah, Call of Duty 2 was fun and I saw where people were coming from when they said it was a "great game". But, I had already had my fill of great and not-so-great World War 2 games. Medal of Honor, Day of Defeat, Return to Castle Wolfenstein (yes, I know this was completely fictional) were some of the games that I played and really got into. It wasn't until after those games that I found Call of Duty 2. And it was neat. But, despite the very historical importance of WW2, I was sick of the genre.
So, when I heard there was a new Call of Duty game coming out, my first thought was, "Oh great, here we go again. Talk about beating a dead, decaying, fly-infested, zombie-like horse."
"No, it's modern warfare," said my informant.
"Hmm..." I thought to myself. "Ah well, I will have to rent it since I am OBVIOUSLY buying Assassin's Creed. I mean, I know I will have to choose one and I have already made up my mind."
Then, November came. Both games came out. And what did I choose? Call of Duty 4. Why is a whole other post and, seeing as this has already dragged on, we shall skip that part.
Yes, Call of Duty 4. I love it. And why? Because of the experience. Anytime a game designer has the player fast-rope out of a helicopter, she has me hooked. It was the footage of fast-roping onto a tanker with a S.A.S. team and clearing it out that finalized my decision. I have not been disappointed. Excellent game. A lot of fun. They are always changing the game up so it's not just a shooter. One mission, you sit in a targeting-console position of an AC-130 using heat vision to cover advancing troops. And, even with all the ridiculous amount of detail that went into the look of the game and the feel, there is still a compelling story. My only complaint is that it was too short. I finished it far too quickly. That could also be that I couldn't put it down seeing as it took a friend two weeks to finish it.
On another note, I have not tried the multi-player yet as I do not have Xbox Live right now.
Thought I would give a trailer to illustrate my points.

Killing "evil" people getting old?
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm, not likely.
COD4 is fantastic. I have it for the PC. I beat it a couple weeks ago so now I'm playing multiplayer. I love the multiplayer, the experience system is great, I'm at level 36 and climbing. I've been playing on the hardcore servers. No cross-hairs or HUD information (ammo and stuff). Great game.
