9/11 today. I, as well as most, remember what happened on this fateful day years ago. Thinking back, I even remember where I was and what I was doing. We all know what 9/11 means in general for the United States and how life changed. But today I ask the question that we all should ask ourselves: "What does 9/11 mean to me?"
My answer to that question is this: That was the day I felt such overwhelming pride in my country and her citizens. Everyone had a flag up. Looking into most people's eyes, I could see the pain and anger, as if their own family had been killed in the tragedy. Suddenly everyone was American. I had never felt such unity before in my life. I will always look up to those heroes in New York. Firemen, Police, everyday people risking their lives for others. I only hope that I would react the same. That same selfless honor, courage, and sacrifice. So, in that sense, 9/11 to me IS America. And God bless her.

Amen to that! America rocks and was at a time of complete crisis finally united as one! UNITED WE STAND was written all over the place. Perhaps we can continue to be united. God Bless America and all of our heros.
ReplyDelete"Suddenly everyone was American."
ReplyDeleteare there americans in america who aren't american?
No, they are Americans but hate America and what it stands for. I didn't mean in the physical or literal sense so much as the psychological sense.
ReplyDeleteI see what you are saying and agree. The question you ask is a good one and I don't think I've come to any conclusion about what 9/11 means to me but I have come to a conclusion on what I think about America. That even though this country has its flaws what it stands for is beautiful. And that the rule of law that governs this land and the rights that protect its citizens are worthy of our greatest defense. Therefore we must be ever vigilant in order to make sure that our country does not sway too far from its goals. If it is in Gods will, let this country find its strength to reach those noble heights.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better myself.
